Ikea has a suite of innovative, incredibly affordable security devices which is fully compatible with Matter and therefore very easy to set up. You can pick and choose what you want, too: Starting with Myggbett, or a door/window sensor, is a good idea.

This sensor, which is only $8, uses AAA batteries and allows you to receive alerts whenever a door, window or drawer is opened. You can also connect it to other smart home devices, such as a speaker or lights, for automation. If you only have one or two doors you want to look at, this Ikea selection can fit your needs and pack in a heartbeat.

A little warning: You will need a compatible home hub to connect this sensor. These include new Apple HomePods and Apple TVs, as well as new Echo speakers, Nest Hubs and more. But if you don’t have one of these devices, you’ll need to get Ikea’s Dirigera hub, $110, which makes this a great choice if you already have a hub nearby.

SwitchBot leak detector

<picture class="c-cmsImage_image"></picture>

Small devices like a leak detector can make a world-changing difference in a home.

Tyler Lacoma/CNET

Not all home security is about catching the bad guys; many help us protect and guard our indoor spaces. One of my current favorites is Yale’s Approach model, which is available for under $100 and offers app controls, including the ability to share virtual keys and save activity history.

While the Yale lock doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, it does have key features like automatic locking and is relatively affordable.
