Hours after the dramatic launch of Artemis II, kicking off NASA&#8217;s first lunar mission in more than 50 years, astronauts reported a Microsoft 365 tech glitch.<\/p>\n<p>As the four crew members fly at 4,275mph and more than 30,000 kilometers from Earth, they are in almost constant communication with NASA Mission Control. During a certain conversation, the mission spacecraft gave this report: &#8220;I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one is working.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" class=\"hawk-root\"\/>\n<p id=\"elk-87ad69f1-f96e-463a-b0ec-cd33dfe49896-2\">First, you could be forgiven for being surprised that the Orion spacecraft (carried by the Artemis II spacecraft) uses Microsoft 365 software. However, NASA has been anchored on Microsoft software and services for years, using the platform for all products, collaboration, and, yes, communication. A few years ago, Microsoft introduced the Outlook application for Windows, which is a rebranding of the original Windows Mail application. Once installed, that application becomes &#8220;Outlook.&#8221; But Microsoft 365 customers know that there is already &#8220;Outlook&#8221; in the 365 Office suite. So, yes, a Windows system can have &#8220;two Microsoft Outlooks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Why it didn&#8217;t work on one of Artemis II&#8217;s mission computers is unclear, although neither Mission Control nor the astronauts sounded concerned.
