Time to start adding an inexpensive mini speaker to your shopping list for a barbecue, vacation or picnic.<\/p>\n<p>Just days after the unveiling of the JBL Go 5, we&#8217;ve been shown a new Tribit alternative &#8211; and although it&#8217;s small in size, it&#8217;s a big deal. But what is really new?<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"upgrades-on-the-micro-3\">Development in Micro<\/h2>\n<p id=\"elk-465588b3-e7c6-4a91-806e-e1ca852527cb\">The Micro 3 has a more rounded design than its previous generation counterpart, and twice as long battery life: 24 hours. Your adventures can be twice as long, and your neighbors can be kept longer (a lot).<\/p>\n<p>You get a much louder speaker as well, with an output power of 13W up from 10W for the Micro 2, to make your summer sound. I couldn&#8217;t find any information about the driver on the previous models, but here is a 48mm with two coax radiators.<\/p>\n<p>The Micro 3 is also protected, with an IP68 rating and military-grade drop resistance, so it&#8217;s perfect for tough tours and outdoor drops. The previous model was only IP67, so the third-generation Micro can withstand deep immersion in water (for a limited time).<\/p>\n<div id=\"slice-container-newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-VecLR9Hor8cTSq7HVWZ6TW\" class=\"slice-container newsletter-inbodyContent-slice newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-VecLR9Hor8cTSq7HVWZ6TW slice-container-newsletterForm\">\n<div data-hydrate=\"true\" class=\"newsletter-form__wrapper newsletter-form__wrapper--inbodyContent\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__container\">\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__top-bar\"\/>\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__main-section\">\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Sign up for top news, reviews, opinions, top tech deals, and more.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>You won&#8217;t find a new killer feature in the Tribit StormBox Micro 3; instead, there is a selection of minor spec upgrades and tweaks to make it a slightly better model. That&#8217;s because the price increase is small enough to be ignored.<\/p>\n<p>This could end up being a nice little JLab, LG Xboom and JBL-beater if you&#8217;re looking for something cute and portable. But we&#8217;ll have to see what else comes out before summer is truly here \u2014 and we&#8217;ll give you a full review later.<\/p>\n<p>But our sound editor Becky Scarrott has always loved the Stormbox Micro system, telling me: &#8220;I&#8217;ve used these since the first generation. The 2020 option and the sound is hot, clear and louder than you&#8217;d expect from a small palm-sized speaker.
