- Xbox portfolio GM advises indie studios to make their games for current Xbox consoles and PC ready for Project Helix
- Chris Charla says “doing this ensures that they will have a native structure in Project Helix”
- He added that Project Helix will be easier for developers to work with
Xbox portfolio and programming general manager Chris Charla said Project Helix will be easier for developers to work with, but advised studios to prioritize developing their current-gen games for PC first.
“We are working hard so that developers can build Xbox One in the future and it will work on their Project Helix console, on PC and in streaming and cloud environments like smart TVs and other devices,” said Charla.

He went on to say that he expects to be able to offer the same support that Xbox does now to developers who want to build Project Helix games. For example, help using Xbox APIs, working with backend systems, business processes, sharing marketing data, and more.
Charla also advised developers, especially indie studios, to make games for Xbox Series X and PC, explaining that this will ensure that they have a native structure of Project Helix when the next generation hardware launches.
“Someone who wants to be ready for the next generation with Xbox should upgrade to an Xbox console today, upgrade to Xbox on PC, and support Xbox Play Anywhere,” said Charla.
“That will put you in a cool place for the next generation and ensure that your Xbox on PC game runs natively on Project Helix. The exact details may vary by developer and game. In most cases if you’re coming from a Steam or stock PC build it may be wise to start with the Xbox PC version first and then use that as a base for the Xbox console version.
“Of course we will have more details about how developers can take advantage of certain features of the Project Helix hardware in the coming months, but doing this ensures that they will have a native build on Project Helix.”
Project Helix was unveiled earlier this month, and alpha versions of the hardware are expected to be in the hands of developers from 2027.
Microsoft also shared the specifications of the console, which will provide next-generation performance, including a custom AMD-based SOC, designed for next-generation DirectX and FSR, and improved ray tracing performance.
