- Apple lists the 32GB Apple TV HD and iPad Mini 4 as ‘outdated’, while the 2017 MacBook Air is ‘vintage’
- Many users are confused, as Apple TV HD is still receiving tvOS 26 updates
- It could mean that a new Apple TV 4K is coming this year
Apple has added three more devices to its list of ‘obsolete’ and ‘classic’ products, and it’s caused a bit of confusion as all three are still widely used – and one in particular, the 32GB Apple TV HD, is still very popular.
The tech giant updated its support page yesterday (March 31), announcing the 32GB Apple TV HD and iPad Mini 4, both introduced in 2015, are no longer available. It also added the 2017 13-inch MacBook Air to its lineup of vintage devices.
What does this mean for users who still use these devices? For the 32GB Apple TV HD and iPad Mini 4, it means that they are no longer eligible for repair services from Apple, so you will have to rely on third-party suppliers. Additionally, Apple will no longer offer spare parts for both devices. 64GB Apple TV HD remains fully supported.

Because the 2017 MacBook Air is now mature instead of obsolete, it is still eligible for Apple repair services, however this is subject to parts availability.
Every now and then, Apple adds a handful of products to its obsolete and old lineup as it introduces new devices across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other categories, depending on specific conditions.
“Products are considered old when Apple stops distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago”, the company said on its support page. “Products were considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago”.
Still using your 32GB Apple TV HD like you bought it yesterday? You are not alone, and many users do not understand why Apple made this decision.
“This is really weird”

Apple listing the 32GB Apple TV HD has faced a lot of confusion and frustration among users, especially since the now obsolete 32GB device is running tvOS 26, which was released six months ago in September. Some of those users took to Reddit in protest, with one posting “This is honestly amazing.”
Although the 32GB Apple TV HD is still receiving updates for tvOS 26, the fact that it has been declared obsolete leads us to believe that it will not be included in the list of devices that will be eligible for tvOS 27, which is expected to be announced at WWDC 2026 on June 8 along with iOS 27.
That suggests the next Apple TV 4K model could drop sometime this year, as it failed to appear after rumors said it would drop by the end of 2025.
Reddit users are also wondering why only the 32GB Apple TV HD is affected, and not the 64GB version. Apple hasn’t commented on why, so we’re just as frustrated as everyone else. It’s possible that Apple will wait until the next Apple TV 4K is announced to replace the 64GB Apple TV HD in its discontinued lineup – we’ll have to wait and see what’s announced on June 8.
