- The latest NordVPN macOS update has caused significant interface lag and dropped connections for users.
- Frustrated customers took to Reddit to criticize the app’s confusing UI changes and bloated features.
- NordVPN told TechRadar that it is releasing version 10.0.4 “later this week” to address the reported issues.
If you use a Mac to protect your online privacy, you may have noticed some serious performance issues lately. The latest update to the NordVPN macOS app caused a wave of technical headaches, with users reporting frequent connection drops and interface lag.
For anyone who relies on the best VPNs to keep their browsing secure and streaming libraries open, an unstable connection is incredibly frustrating. If the VPN goes down every few minutes, it can reveal your real IP address and disrupt your online activities, completely defeating the purpose of the software.
Fortunately, relief is at hand. After a growing backlash online, NordVPN has confirmed to TechRadar that a solution is working.
“I just received a quick update from our technical team that they are preparing a hotfix to address the reported issues,” said a NordVPN spokesperson. “We expect to release version 10.0.4 with fixes later this week.”
What went wrong with the update?
The problem started shortly after the latest version hit the App Store. Users flocked to Reddit to voice their frustration, with one customer describing the update as “dumping fire.”

The main technical complaints have to do with the unusual slowness. One user reported experiencing “load times of 10 seconds, and repeated connection drops,” while the original poster noted that their connection was randomly dropping every 30 seconds despite restarting their computer and disabling additional features such as the switch and DNS filters.
Besides connectivity bugs, the update also introduces a few controversial design changes. Customers complain of increased bloat, citing unsolicited add-ons such as aggressive antivirus settings that block simple text files. The development team also removed the dedicated reconnect button, now placing it under the “Pause” menu, and made changes to the widget that caused it to incorrectly display connection statuses.
What should you do right now?
If you’re currently experiencing these issues on your Mac, the best course of action is to check for the version 10.0.4 update hitting the App Store in the coming days.
Meanwhile, some Reddit users with modern technology have found success by uninstalling the current app and reverting to an older, more stable build, such as v9.10.1, to regain their normal speeds.
Some have suggested temporarily relying on a browser extension or manually configuring the connection with OpenVPN if the desktop application remains completely unused.
If you choose to wait for it in the current version, make sure your kill switch is fully active. Although the interface of the application may be ugly, the active kill button is important to prevent your access to the Internet if the VPN goes down, to ensure that your personal data is not accidentally leaked during the reconnect.
