A nutritionist reveals Costco’s best high-protein, high-fiber foods for weight loss.
Everyone I know sells at Costco, even dietitians and nutritionists. While the warehouse sells a lot of high-calorie items, including almost everything from the popular bakery, there are plenty of healthy options as well. My nutritionist, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, Board Certified Sports Dietitian and co-author of the Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies, is one of the millions of Costco members who shop at the store. She recently shared her bulk shopping list with me. “I like this list as a whole because it focuses on nutritious, minimally processed foods, which is exactly what we look for when we support weight loss. But it’s important to remember: there is no single food that causes weight loss. These foods work because they help with satiety, blood sugar control, and overall food quality. Even healthy foods like nuts, almond flour, and seeds reduce the calorie balance, so the decrease in the calorie ratio is still very small, so the calorie loss is still a low issue. “healthy” food choices,” he says. “To lose weight, I focus on foods that are high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats because they help you stay full longer and reduce overeating. Buying these in bulk can also make it easier to stick to healthy habits.” Here’s what Costco bulk food experts swear by for weight loss.
Kirkland Organic Greek Yogurt

Kirkland Organic Greek Yogurt is consistently recommended by health and fitness experts. He says: “A lot of protein, it helps fill and maintain lean muscles during weight loss,” he said. “Note: It is not ‘zero sugar’ because it contains natural lactose, but no added sugar.” An added bonus? It’s creamy and delicious.
Kirkland Shelled Hemp Hearts

He is also a fan of Kirkland Shelled Hemp Hearts. “Offer healthy fats, some protein, and minerals. Fats help with satiety, but portion size is important as they are calorie-dense,” she says.
Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon

Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon is one of the things he will buy. “It is rich in protein and omega 3 fatty acids, which may support heart health and help with satiety. It is a good option for a balanced diet,” he said. Also, at Costco you will save a lot by buying in bulk.
Kirkland Almond Flour

If you love to cook, consider Kirkland Almond Flour. “They’re lower in carbs than traditional flour and contain healthy fats and some fiber, but they’re still calorie dense, so they’re naturally not ‘diet friendly’ unless portions are controlled,” says Collingwood.
Rotisserie Chicken

Several shoppers bought more than one of Costco’s famously cheap $5 rotisserie chickens. “It’s a light, high-protein option that can make meal prep easier. Removing the skin can reduce saturated fat and calories if needed,” he says.
Kirkland Frozen Organic Berries

Another popular item for health professionals, especially as an addition to protein shakes and smoothies? Kirkland Frozen Organic Berries. “It’s high in fiber and antioxidants with no added sugar. Fiber helps with satiety and blood sugar control, which makes it great for weight control,” he said.
Kirkland Boneless Chicken Breast

Also, Kirkland Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast has been a bestseller for decades. “It’s a lean protein staple that’s high in protein, low in fat, and very versatile. It supports satiety and muscle maintenance,” he said.
Kirkland Walnut

Kirkland Walnuts are one of the most popular nuts. “They contain healthy fats and fiber, which can help with fullness. Like all nuts, they are nutritious but calorie dense, so portion control is important,” says Collingwood.
Season Brand Sardine Fillets

Season Brand Sardine Fillets are another heart-healthy option. It’s full of protein, omega-3s, and calcium (especially when bones are added). It’s very nutritious and satisfying,” says Collingwood.
