NYT Connections today (match #1022) – answers
The answers to today’s Connect, game #1022, are…
- GRAY: PHOTOGRAPHS VIEWED ON THE STREET GRAFFITI, MURAL, POSTER, STENSES
- GREEN: RETRO DANCES CRAZES HUSTLE, FAST STRUGGLE, ROBOT, TWIST
- BLUE: SILENT “p” CORPS, COUP, PSYCHO, RECEIPT
- BLACK: ___ MOTHER BEAUTIFUL, CHECK, QUESTION, SIMPLIFY
- My rating: It’s easy
- My score: It’s complete
This was a rare game for me in that I saw all the teams at the same time.
That said, I had a bit of a question about the dance craze – I knew HUSTLE, MASHED POTATO and TWIST, but I thought ROBOT might do the trick as that seemed very 21st century, while the others were popular back in the 1960s and 1970s. PSYCHO sounded like a possibility.
Instead, I put that aside and submitted two groups that I was sure about. I was sure one of them would be the purple team, but alas I chose SILENT “p” over ____ MARK. It feels like a missed opportunity to jump on another “purple first”.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by The New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually harder and purple is usually more difficult.
On the other hand, you don’t technically need to solve the last one, as you will be able to answer that one through the process of elimination. In addition, you can make four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.
It’s a bit more involved than something like Wordle, however, and there’s more chance for the game to get bogged down with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other word games that can hide answers.
It’s free to play through the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
