There is growing excitement for the release of The Super Mario Galaxy movie on April 1. The trailers are full of accurate details of the game, the posters show that it might be there Super Smash Bros. crossover is next, and if it’s like the first movie, we should prepare ourselves for a big box office success, too.
However, there’s a good reason why I can’t muster excitement about it, and it’s the same with Chris Pratt. His Mario voice isn’t perfect, and if I could change anything about the Nintendo franchise, it would be Pratt’s involvement.

Why you need to stream the movie AI Mercy on Prime Video this week
Watch it open
What am I talking about? Mercya January flop that starred Pratt as Chris (coincidentally), a man wrongly accused of a crime he didn’t commit. For his trial, he is sent to the Mercy courts, presided over by an AI judge who happens to look exactly like Rebecca Ferguson.
There are no lawyers, no right to self-defense, and no time to think. Chris has 90 minutes to prove his innocence by a certain percentage, using only the evidence he can collect and sift through himself. Oh, did I mention he’s strapped to a mechanical chair the entire time?
Although there is a lot of that Mercy it goes bad, it takes risks in ways we may not have enjoyed when it first came out in January. Confining a movie to one place is not easy, either Mercy manages to deliver a biting mystery without its main character as a stand-up.
Then there are the discussions about AI itself. Artificial Intelligence is not coming out Mercy like a hero or a villain, instead asking us to ask if we use it in the most beneficial ways (answer: no).
In fact, you can see what Pratt himself has to say about the matter below:
In the last 20 minutes of the film, all hell breaks loose – and so does Chris in his chair. Mercy it taps into familiar action threads to deliver its final showdown, and it’s an effective change. If you haven’t enjoyed the screenplay so far, it’s a much-needed refresher.
Looking back, I think I was harsh on Mercy when it first came out in January. I was sure it was going to be one of the worst movies of 2026, but somehow, I’ve seen movies that weren’t quite as satisfying (ahem, the The Peaky Blinders movie).
Even if you are worried Super Marioto return, Mercy he can actually do a double take of Chris Pratt. Both in a fantasy world, with a looming villain and a race against time… what more could you ask for?
