- Sony’s new PSSR amplification technology is coming Assassin’s Creed Shadows on April 7
- Next-gen tech introduces improved image quality, performance, and radiation tracking
- The new features will be available in all three modes of PS5 Pro
Sony announced that PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) advanced AI upscaling technology will be added eventually. Assassin’s Creed Shadows this month.
The update will arrive on April 7 alongside the game’s patch 1.1.9 and will introduce improved image quality, smoother performance, and improved ray tracing on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
“The advanced PSSR is very progressive Assassin’s Creed Shadows by delivering sharp pixel quality and exceptional image stability, effectively eliminating visual distractions caused by motion and vibration, and creating a smooth, immersive experience that allows players to stay engaged in the world without interruption,” said technical art director Robert Foriel in a new PlayStation Blog post.

Improvements will mean clean and stable environments Shadows‘ sprawling open world, complex rendering of dense vegetation, ray-traced lighting, and dynamic effects. It also delivers high visual fidelity, “minimizing the trade-off between performance and image quality”.
The wind blowing the tall grass will produce more liquid A shadowThe Atmos system, which “results in the most complex motion and environment in large areas” and a realistic atmosphere.
“This type of dense, small geometry is particularly challenging, with constant movement and visual changes common to every frame,” says technical architect Nicolas Lopez.
“Enhanced PSSR preserves fine detail up close, allowing blades of grass to remain clear even when moving, while also improving glare in the distance, and clean edges on trees and other distant foliage.”
Similarly, PSSR’s advanced real-time tracking also handles effects such as reflections, ambient occlusion, and dynamic lighting more accurately across complex scenes, reducing the need for manual adjustments and resulting in stable and consistent image quality.
All these features will be available in all PS5 Pro graphics models, Performance, Standard, and Quality, all of which offer different internal resolutions with Dynamic Resolution Scaling.
“Combining the improved PSSR into Assassin’s Creed Shadows it was straightforward – the code changes were minimal, almost identical to the original PSSR integration,” added Lopez. “Yet the upgrade brings a significant improvement in image quality across the board. It’s rare to get such a noticeable improvement with so little maintenance required.”
Bad Need for Residents was the first game to receive the latest PSSR update, and has since been released as a collection of games Silent Hill f, Take control, Alan Wake 2, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Final Fantasy 7 Reincarnationand more.
New tech is also expected to be brought to it The Crimson Desert again Cyberpunk 2077 soon.
