According to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators, counties return more than $4 a billion with unclaimed money every year from companies that cannot find their owners.
About 1 in 7 Americans has “unclaimed money,” and some of it could be yours! Unclaimed money may include money from former employers, service companies, stocks, mutual funds, safe deposit box contents, unpaid checks, insurance policies, and more.
Follow these steps to search for unclaimed money:
- Visit Unclaimed.org and scroll down to select your state. Or visit the Unclaimed Money directory on USA.gov.
- Follow the instructions to search for unclaimed funds in your state.
- If you find the same, fill out the claim form. Many states and territories require a specific form to be filled out.
- Follow the instructions to fill the mentioned form. You may need to provide additional documents for verification.
- The claim form and ID are mailed to the state for review. The country will respond directly to you after it has reviewed your submission and confirmed that you are the rightful owner.
- Most states send an acknowledgment letter after they receive your claim. Claims processing times vary depending on the claims service in your state.
HIP TIP: Unclaimed property is reported in the state where the company or organization resides. It’s not uncommon to have unclaimed money in multiple states, especially if you’ve traveled to different places!

I checked this link last year when you posted and was able to get …. $50,000! My grandmother left it in her bank account when she died 5 years ago. The site only said “over $250” 😆. I check this every time you post this and get money for friends and family. I then told them how to apply for the funds. I earned almost $10,000 in total!!!! Mine, $0.00! I did this once at my family reunion. I told people to take out their cell phones and look at them quickly. We had about 25% of the room lost, now it has recovered.
