A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight each day in your time zone – meaning some people are always playing ‘today’s game’ while others are playing ‘yesterday’s’. If you want a Saturday puzzle instead and click here: NYT Strands Hints and Answers for Saturday, April 18 (game #776).

NYT Strands today (match #777) – answers
Today’s Strands answers, game #777, are…
- FIX
- FIX
- TWEAK
- LAUGH
- IMPROVE
- ALTER
- SPANGRAM: THEREIFIXEDIT
- My rating: It’s difficult
- My score: It’s complete
Despite the fact that I was able to finish this game without hints I still put it in the “tricky” category, because it took me longer than usual to finish – and that was with the help of a few rare characters.
Another head start was that after seeing “there” on the board I decided that it must be part of a spangram and continued to connect letters until I got to THEREIFIXEDIT – a spangram that felt very similar to a magician pulling an endless handkerchief from a top hat.
So, today’s search was about perfectionism and people who have to get things like that in order to feel like they’ve accomplished a great job—a personality trait that I definitely don’t have. Instead of saying “when I fixed it”, my expression when fixing things is “when it will do”. Maybe we shirkers will find our own Strands one day.
